brain-fried

It's been sooooo long. But I've been busy with this million dollar Marlboro outwit the West contest. A team of 4 has to solve 100 clues about locations in the western US. So far I have 65. I will give you an example of an easy one (but not the answer, because if someone types the right word into a search, it could pop up. With my luck that would be the only answer their team needed to win.)
One I have already.....
The paint job around here required no paint and messing with its "wood" is against the law. What's the name of this park?
You have to micro-examine the question, twist it around and hope you find what fits.
One I am stuck on....
Pick up First and find this Penny in the Park by trusting the lonely rails.

That's why I haven't been doing much on my comp but searching for things. I might spend 3 hours trying to find one answer and still come up with nothing. But I admit it is kinda of fun.
Obsessive but fun. So I will get back on a regular basis when I have all the answers or when the entry has to be mailed in..........whichever comes first.

when's it my turn?

So, the old man calls me at work at 3 yesterday, talking all sexy and let's go have some fun tonight. I thought sounds good-but I have to work Wednesday. But wait- I have maxxed vacation hours. So at the last minute, I call my boss, ask her to look at my vacation balance and she asks me what day this week I'm taking off. I chose today. Jo was not happy with my last minute vacation day, but tough crap, she's been off every other week for and will be again next week. I'm tired of running the show alone so much. So I'm off today.

Last night I get home, ready for a fun evening singing somewhere I haven't been before. It's up the highway about 20 minutes from here. In my mind I thought hubby could have a beer or two, I can get plastered and yodel then he can drive home. Afterall, it was him who wanted me to have a good time last night.

WRONGO!
First, we drag Alan along. Then hubby decides since it's beach party night, he's gonna have a couple margaritas. Then he proceeds to socialize leaving me stuck with half deaf Alan who insisted on sitting in front of the speakers, where I couldn't hear a friggin thing he said. Alan doesn't understand the karaoke thing at all. He kept asking when I have to go on, when am I going to sing next. On top of that when he's out with us, he insist on constantly asking what's wrong. Nothing drives me nuttier then someone asking me what's wrong over and over again.
Since hubby was wasting away all night in Margaritaville, I had to be the designated drvier. So whoopee- I got to nurse two beers for 4 hours and sit with a guy who was getting on my nerves all night.

I'm off Friday-So Thursday night I'm going out singing , by myself. I'm going to have fun. And if I wish to get too happy, I will park my car at home and walk to the end of the street. It will be my turn to have fun.

finally!

I don't think I can remeber a week as long as this one has been. With Jo off, surprise painters arriving, having to reschedule roach spraying, the alarm system check and about a thousand other things I can't remember, it's been rough. Not so much physically as mentally. I am so ready to chill out this weekend. Hubby is too. He's finally off jury duty. In two weeks just a few of the cases he heard included 4 murders, 6 rapes and a chitload of drug and domestic violence charges. I only hope if I ever get called for jury service, it's for a trial and not the Grand jury.
So I am now closing the door on this week and locking it up.
I think my neighbors found Sam dog another home, I haven't seen him for about a week now. I just hope wherever he went, he gets more attention then he got from them. He wasn't abused, just neglected in the human contact kind of way.
Alan has been bad while hubby was on jury duty and not around to watch over him. He hasn't been taking his meds or eating for the past 2 weeks. Hubby is gonna call the ambulance tonight to come take him to the hospital so they can take care of him. Afterwards, I think he is going into a group home where trained people can make sure he does what he needs to to survive. I honestly don't think the man should live by himself again. Hubby said he was even so lazy or drunk, he would use a bucket next to his bed instead of walking to the bathroom...yuck.
Karaoke again Sunday....think this week I'll do Rocky Top and He Thinks He'll Keep Her(Mary Chapin Carpenter).
For the curious so far I have sang....
week 1 - Leavin On a Jet Plane(Peter,Paul &Mary) and Bobby McGee(Joplin)
week 2 - Passionate Kisses (Mary Chapin Carpenter) and Heartbreaker (Pat Benatar)
week 3 -Everything I Do (Bryan Adams) and Minnie the Moocher (Cab Calloway)

I haven't done the same kind of music over and over like some have. But I like showing versatility. Too many folks there sing all ballads or all Sinatra. Not they they're bad, I just would like to see them try other stuff. Well, I'm outta here for the weekend -take care.

none(tired of thinking up titles)

Awww, a day off. Man do I need it. This weekend I worked, it was hot, plants needed water 2x a day, and to top it off I was out late Saturday, then turned around and went to sing after work on Sunday. Thankfully, hubby is still on jury duty this week so I have the house to myself for at least half the day.
This karaoke contest on Sundays is getting rough. There's 57 total contestants, black, white male, female, old young. Singing everything from Sinatra to Sheryl Crow to Coal Miner's Daughter. It started back in June and some folks have over 200 votes. I have 15 as of last night. Two new contestants started last night, and they are damn good. The quarter finals are the first week of September, and they have to elimination tiers- The "A" group is the top 50% of the votes and the "B" group, the bottom 50. I don't know if I can compete with the people I heard from the B group, some are way better than I am. It's fun to try, but if I don't make it that's fine too. In September, sis-in-law has a show every weekend, and I still need to help her as much as possible. Most of her shows are within a half hour of home and they are over at 5. It takes about an hour to break down the booth (6:00),a half hour to get back here (6:30) and a half hour to change and speed up to the contest which should get me there at starting time (7:00). A tight schedule, but do-able.
Co-worker is going to be off again this week, which means finding stuff for our part-timer to do. Wish he didn't need the hours(I'm sure he does too) or I'd just send him home when things got slow. Then again, I'm not his boss and I can't make that call.
Time to go do a bit of housework......just a bit.

hello blogland

Wow, seems like forever since my last post, but it's only been three days. Three very hot, very long days. The heat index outside is near 105 with a temp of 92 degrees. So just out of curiosity I looked up the heat index for the same humidity at say the temps a greenhouse gets (100-104).Now I know why I can't hang in there more than a half hour at a time. The heat index at 65% humidity with a temp of 103 is 142 degrees. Any wonder why I've been coming home and passing out in front of the A/C for 2 hours? Nope.
It's been so hot, I haven't even been in the backyard this week, I guess I'll water the garden this afternoon, screw mowing, it can wait. Hubby's on jury duty the next 2 weeks, so he's been gone all day. I've snuck in taking off from work this afternoon and Thursday. I've reached the maximumhours of vacation I can accumulate(363), If I don't take a day off , I start losing vacation days. I earn 6.5 hours every two weeksso I need to take a day off every other week to maintain my max. When the weather cools down and I can afford to, I'll take a week and actually go somewhere. But right now, it's too hot to do anything around here except stay in the house.Enough bitching time to make some iced tea, turn on the sprinkler and chill out.
