hump day

I finally dumped my msn dial-up and joined the blazing fast hi-speed world. I liked msn,but it was just too slow.Pages load much quicker now,but I still need to figure alot out. I liked that msn let me and my husband sign onto entirely different pages where we each had seperate favorites. So far,I haven't found a way I can do that with this service.

Hubby is now an officially licensed and insured motorcycle owner. Now the damn thing needs a new battery...ugh.

Work is getting stressful once again. For some reason, management can't get it through their skulls that the greenhouses only hold so much. I got an e-mail from stupidvisor telling me to find room for 150 pots of daffodils that need forcing. The timing couldn't be worse since they'll be around until mid -March and next week I have 10,000 plugs coming in, my co-worker has to find room for 3000 pots next week and the week after I have another 5000 plants due in. On top of that, the plants for this Home and Garden show will be coming back and being held until late April.Plus I have one whole greenhouse that I usually use for outside stuff, crammed full of vegetables in pots. I think the boss believes 15,000 square feet is the space available for growing because that is the square feet of the whole complex. HELLOOOO stupid, after you take out aisles and other non-usable space it equals closer to 10,000. And even then the plants need some space between them or else you end up with buggy stretched out plants.
(sigh) This year I think I'll finally take a week off in June, when all this madness stops.

Time for me to soak my achin back, take a nap and get ready to go sing my cares away for the night.

fat Tuesday

and yeah, I feel fat. All this cold, snow and ice has kept me hibernating inside under covers, eating fattening food, and it's starting to show. Yuck.
I know now that I'm getting old, I can't remember when I last saw my eyeglasses..usually I keep them in my car since I only use them for driving. (I have a spare pair the dog chewed up for watching tv,but it only has one lens) But last week I kept them in my purse because it was so cold they would fog up when I put them on. I must have dropped them somewhere, because they're not here or at work. That sucks because I still have another year before insurance will spring for a new pair, but I have to get my driver's license renewed in April, and I'm pretty certain I won't be able to pass the eye exam this year without them...so I guess I'll have to pay for a new pair myself.
Also a bummer...I knew I should've bought that computer 2 weeks ago...now I can't find one with the same features for a price I can afford outright, so high-speed will have to wait a while longer.
Work situation is getting a little better...I'm still pissed about having to grow vegetables. And space is becoming more of an issue with every FedEX delivery. But at least my stupidvisor doesn't feel the need to constantly breathe down my neck anymore and only calls every third day or so and limits her visits to once a week. It may be cold and icky outside, but I have lovely flowering plants and baby seedlings telling me spring isn't too far away.

saturday

Wow,that felt good....
Having some "extra" cash (no cash is ever really extra-just not earmarked for bills), I decided to get 2 new front tires. I had heard that all 4 tires should match to avoid problems...trouble was, only Sears carried the exact type of Michelins that are on the beast right now.
So this morning, I drive to Sears with high anticipation of no longer worrying about a blowout. I go into the Autocenter, tell them what I want, give them my cell phone number and head into the mall to kill some time. After 5 minutes, I get a call saying they can't replace just the fronts due to a difference in treadware and if I put it in 4-wheel drive, I could ruin my transaxle..
I am no mechanic, but I do know a wee bit about cars and I figured this was one of the biggest lines of crap I'd ever heard to try and sell me 4 tires instead of 2. The front tires are worn twice as much as the back already, and I used 4 wheeel earlier this week when it snowed, and lo and behold, nothing happened to my transaxle.
I went back to the Autocenter, thanked them for their time, and left.
Thirty years ago, my parents used to take the company trucks to a little independent tire place which was right around the corner from Sears,so I went there.
I explained what the folks at Sears had told me to the guy who waited on me and I could tell he was trying real hard not to laugh. He said as long as the tires were the same size, treadware didn't mean crap, unless I drove an Olds Bravada. I told him my family used to bring our company trucks there 30 years ago and he asked me the name of the company. I told him and he said he remember that name since he had been there 35 years. I said "now you're bullshitting me" whereupon, he rifled through some old files and found an invoice from 1972 for my mom's old Chevy. I knew then this place was honest, and told him to hook me up with 2 front tires.End result, 2 new tires for 181 bucks instead of the 300 Sears wanted. And the best part was I paid cash! I can't explain how good it feels to be able to pay cash outright for what I need, instead of being in debt. I am hoping next payday to be able to get a new computer.
Not looking forward to Monday/Tuesday as 5 more inches of snow is expected. Silly people were lined up at the carwashes today to get this week's salt off....that will last all of 72 hours folks. I'll save my quarters for a couple of weeks. Plus it's still below freezing and I don't like my door locks freezing up because of water in them. Hmmm.....think I need to read the "Why I like winter" post again.

A cold day in Hell

As I sit here typing with my husband's fingerless gloves on, I went back and reread some of my summer posts hoping to warm up a bit. Didn't work...it's a lovely zero degrees here in the Queen City at 10 a.m. my belly is upset from all the coffee and herbal tea I've been drinking trying to stay warm. I'm off work today praise God, but am dreading freezing my butt off in the morning when I do have to venture out.
Funny, I wasn't this cold when I woke up at 5 and took a shower even though the thermometer upstairs read 60. Only got cold when the sun came up. Damned old drafty house. Put plastic on the windows, but there's still some lovely drafts coming in everywhere.
I finally got high speed internet Friday....now if I could only figure how to make it work. Should have paid the 100 bucks to have it installed I guess. But maybe my old dog of a computer is too far behind the tech times to run the damn modem. I know I need front tires badly, but Best Buy had a comp on sale for 580 that I could outright buy with no credit involved. So that is my dilemma du jour.....buy tires this week and keep running dial-up for 2 weeks until next payday and hope they keep that comp on sale (Best Buy is always having sales)
Or do I go get me a new toy, hope I don't get a flat in the freezing cold and wait 2 weeks to get tires? I think the tires win this time.Besides, buying a comp would leave me with 200 for food and fun, which is a little outside my comfort zone.(Funny, not that long ago,200 bucks left over for food would have seemed like a fortune) Guess I'll wait (sigh) and hope a good comp deal happens in 2 weeks.
Hubby and his bud are talking about going to Florida in a week or two, right now it's still a maybe. At least hubby's friend would fix that busted brake line on the truck that's been sitting in the driveway since October, and I get some time to myself.Plus, hubby wants to buy his friend's motorcycle and if hubby pays the 250 needed for gas for the trip, his bud will knock that off the price of the bike he wants to sell for 1000. Either way, hubby is getting the motorcycle. I have given up my half of our federal tax return so that he can finally have a motorcycle. I figure he should at least get one since he turns 50 this year, and he's wanted a motorcycle for years now. Next year, the tax return is mine.
